BSD is just going to say it: there doesn’t seem to be any particular, pressing need to spend big money on a mascara. Not when some of the best come in at under a tenner. Also, when the seal breaks and it goes irretrievably globby; or you lose it in a cab or a bar or your own stupid house, you feel like such a profligate fool if it cost 29 quid. Whereas, if it were more like £9.99, you just feel like the regular, common old garden fool that you always feel like. PLUS its always good to have a back-up mascara in the drawer. Going out without lipstick or eye shadow is, for most, doable. A party or big meeting or date without mascara? Potentially, more disempowering.
Maybelline Sky High Mascara launched earlier this year to sell-out hype. It lengthens, thickens and separates. It’s light yet dramatic. It works best when layered which is useful if you want to control the impact. Crucially, it doesn’t fall down your face, which makes us all look a little deranged and haunted – which we may well be but it is not our mascara’s job to out us.
