Nothing to wear? The perfect sweatpants

One of the best things about January is that you pretty much have permission to wear sweatpants 24/7. Going to the supermarket? Don’t even think of wearing running gear, unless you want everyone to hate you. And if you work in an actual office with salient people who have got it together to put on suits and stuff, then sweatpants are still the item you will reach for the moment you are reunited with your front door.

While the point of January is to look like shit and not care much, it’s worth caring a smidgeon about which sweatpants you chuck on – if only because a judiciously chosen pair can take you beyond the confines of your sofa. After the excesses of Christmas, brunch in anything other than an elasticated waist would be too depressing and uncomfortable to countenance. Wear the below with a vaguely smart jumper and a calf-length coat and you’re good to go.
